Hyde is the main vocalist of L'Arc~en~Ciel and composes all the lyrics and music for some songs. Sometimes he plays saxophone or, guitar while performing. The name, Hyde is actually his alias and is pronounced ha-i-do. Hyde made this name because he thinks it is cool. Till now, no one knows what is Hyde's real name, though rumors say his real name is Takarai Hideto. Hyde was born in Kansai, and is the only child in the family. His mother wanted a daughter rather than a son, so little Hyde looked very cute and looked like a girl.(smile) His mother always made him wear pink and red girl's clothes(poor hyde-sama). People always thought that he was a girl.^_^
When Hyde went to kindergarden, he finally found out the difference between girls and boys. Girls wear red clothes and boys wear blue clothes. He was a crybaby during his first time in kindergarden. He cried a lot that day(kawaii^^) and just like a normal kid, did not like going to school. Everyday after school, he always had to go home very late, because his parents were working. There were only a few kids left in the school, so Hyde played paper plane with them while waiting for his parents come to pick him up.
Little Hyde was not a special kid in his school. He did not have many friends and he unfortunately, cried a lot. He had a good friend, named Tet-chan(not Tetsu^^). They both liked a girl in their class named Tomo-chan. Hyde said she is very cute and has very big eyes.(smile) He and Tet-chan sketched Tomo-chan's pictures. They promised each other not tell their secret to other people. But Tet-chan broke the promise, told his mother about their secret and showed her the picture. Hyde was extremely mad and ashamed, so he cried(again^^) and lied to Tet-chan's mother that he did not like Tomo-chan. It was the first time Hyde lied. Eventhough Hyde was very mad at Tet-chan, he still played with Tet-chan because he did not have any other friends.
When he studied in junior high school, he joined the soccer teeam. He quit after 3 days because he could not stand the basic skill training... he only wanted to play soccer. In his second year of junior high, he had his first girlfriend but they quickly broke up because he did not like the girl's character.
"RAMBO" was showing in Japan in early 80's. It was a great hit. Many teenagers were influenced by this movie, including Hyde. He loved Stallon's army look in the movie. Also, at that time, he was very interested in outdoor activity, such as hiking, bicycle. So, he and his friends all wore in army clothes and went mountain biking. One day, when Hyde went to hiking with his friends, he had an accident and was sent to a hospital. His left hand was seriously broken and he stayed in the hospital for two weeks. Since this accident, he cannot use his left hand very well... till now.
Besides outdoor activity and soccer, Hyde enjoys drawing, designing and listening to foreign music. Especially in grade 3(junior high), he liked heavy metal a lot. Hyde originally thought about an ideal artist career when he was young. After graduating high school, he went to Art College. Of course, his parents did not reject his decision nor had the time to worry about him due to their working careers. Unluckily he cannot see the difference between two colors, such as pick, light blue. That's probably the reason why he only likes wearing monchrome, white or black clothing.
When he graduating from Art College, he joined a band(I guess is Jessarems Rod) while working. After, he and his group member, Pero left the band and joined Tetsu's L'Arc~en~Ciel in 1991.
Many people always wondered if Hyde has girlfriend. There were rumors, which suggested his girlfriend was an AV actress(umm...) and had a date with Yoshikawa Hinano(Hinano is married with SHAZNA's IZAM in 1999 spring). Anyway, Friday magazine(they like to expose artists' private life) finally found an answer for us. Hyde's present girlfriend is Ohishi Megumi... umm... what do you think?(But it is not our business, right?)
